Moving to the Office 365 Single Tenant
What is Going to Happen?
Beginning December 19, 2018, at 9:00 p.m., Minnesota State Mankato will transition from the current (local) Office 365 environment to the Office 365 implementation provided by the MinnState System Office. The result will increase your digital security, streamline all login processes, allow for D2L integration of Office 365, and align us more closely with all other campuses in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. IT Solutions will keep you informed through newsletters, social media and signage around campus. We are also available to take part in department meetings upon request.
Why Are We Participating in This Transition?
All MinnState colleges and universities are required to use this version of Office 365 for office productivity tool functions by the end of 2019. Minnesota State Mankato will be the largest university to implement the change, and we'll be following several Minnestoa State colleges and universities that have already converted. The new Office 365 implementation will allow us to work more seamlessly with other institutions in the MinnState system and will create a smoother transition for students who transfer to Minnesota State Mankato from other colleges.
How Will I Be Impacted?
This change will affect everyone at Minnesota State Mankato because it will change your login. Your awareness of action you will need to take throughout the semester will make this transition easier for you. IT Solutions will offer assistance with all issues during the winter break transition and throughout the spring semester. Please check this page for more updates as the changeover approaches.
Will My Email Address Change?
All email addresses will be preserved from Minnesota State Mankato's current Office 365 environment to the shared Office 365 environment (after the migration).
However, any NEW accounts or addresses created after December 19, 2018, for duplicate names will have a slightly different format. In these duplicate name situations, a ".2", ".3", etc. will be assigned. Previously, these addresses were created with a "-2", "-3", etc. Please note that existing addresses will NOT change.
- firstname.lastname.#@mnsu.edu
Will My Login to Office 365 (MavMAIL) and Outlook Change?

- Employees: StarID@minnstate.edu
- Students: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
- Alumni: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
