Dr. Kimberly Zammitt joined the Social Work faculty in Fall 2007. She earned a PhD in social work with a concentration on Policy, Planning, and Program Administration from Jackson State University, both her BSW and MSW from the University of Southern Mississippi. Her dissertation explored social workers’ attitudes toward gay men and lesbian women using the Implicit Association Test. Her research interests are in the area of GLBT issues, attitudes, cultural responsiveness, and critical incident stress management. Kimberly has ten years of clinical social work practice experience in the fields of community mental health, child and adolescent mental health, and geriatric mental health. She worked throughout the state of Mississippi to establish behavioral health services in skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. She served as clinical social worker and training specialist for Jackson State University in a federal grant funded program to bring mental health services to remote rural areas in Mississippi through community health collaborations. This position included clinical work with individuals, families, and groups, along with supervision of field students and training of professional staff. Prior to that, Kimberly worked as a therapist coordinator at a child and adolescent day treatment program. She currently teaches many of the advanced direct practice courses in our MSW program.
